I have always liked the Katana bindings, and this was my second season testing the Rome Katana with the addition of the FASE rapid-entry system.
While the FASE system does slightly restrict the amount of micro-adjustment available in the binding setup—most notably, I can no longer rotate the highbacks—the added convenience of getting in and out more than makes up for that compromise.
Although it isn't a true step-in system like the Step-ons, Supermatic or Clew the FASE system certainly achieves its goal of making life a little easier. Unlike some "easy-entry" systems, the Katana's legendary fit is retained, leaving you feeling securely locked in and at one with your board.
On the first-generation version, I occasionally found that when kicking my foot into the binding, the toe strap would give way and end up underneath my boot. However, Rome appears to have addressed this on this season's version, as I didn't experience it once during testing.
For me, there isn't a better high-performance easy-entry snowboard binding
