The brand uvex (uv-ex = ultraviolet excluded) was introduced by Rainer Winter, managing partner of UVEX WINTER HOLDING GmbH & Co. KG based in Fürth, Germany, for a sunglasses line in the mid-fifties. Soon thereafter, an umbrella brand developed for all sports products, which was also extended to the occupational safety division from the mid-seventies.
